Pomegranates (scientific name Punica Granatum) have been cultivated since ancient times and are used today in cooking and baking, in beverages such as juices, smoothies and alcoholic beverages and are enjoyed as a healthy fruit.  A 100 gram (3.5 oz) serving of pomegranate seeds are a good source of vitamins C and K and are also an excellent source of fiber when the whole seed (aril) is eaten.
