An Old-Fashioned Christmas

Decorating for the Holidays

These old ice skates have traveled with me from Michigan to New York to Massachusetts and back to New York.  I haven’t actually skated in them since sometime in the mid 1970’s so you might wonder why I continued to pack them up and drag them around the country with me.  I guess I’m a bit of a pack rat at time, hesitant to get rid of things that might have a practical use at some time in the future, or just hanging on to something with sentimental value.

But ever so often one of those things that I’ve held onto actually comes in handy and serves a purpose, like these now vintage ice skates.  Or this old fence section left over from when we replaced the stockade fence around the yard a few years ago.  Dress them up with some greens from the yard, a red and white striped candy cane and a festive bow and they are transformed into a charming old-fashioned Christmas decoration.

Faded colors add a bit of vintage look to the image but for those that prefer something a little brighter check out this version with more saturated coloration.
